This is the glue of my world.

this has been making the rounds. take a moment to think about Dave Grohl. imagine being that guy. imagine being a human that changed the course of music and then started another band right after that and got mega. imagine writing a song like “Everlong” and “Best of You.” game over. Dave Grohl wins.

wow, i haven’t gone to my tumblr page in half a year+. i’ve been finding some great stuff in the internet world. i guess i’ll just start filtering through it all and post what i find to be absurd, cool, beautiful, or intriguing. Let me be your filter. Ok, well, let’s start it off right. Black people. More absurd than asians?

Playing on a double decker bus. Brilliant.

What a rock star ending.

The bride and groom in this video is just too good. Are you kidding me? Mind blowingly romantic. Love the beginning where the camera revolves around the pointing index finger. It’s telling it like it is. Phoenix is #1. I’m surprised the masses aren’t rushing the floor, but this was filmed just before the tsunami of a single got unleashed to the world. Such a massive hit.

This is where it started it off for me and where i feel in love with the concept. The series of songs filmed impromptu, stripped down, and live on the streets or in apartments. Hands down the most beautifully captured settings for some of the best songs/artists. The person overlooking the scene from their apartment is memorable in this video and the little kids joyously dancing to a stripped down Menomena will be forever etched into my mind. Sometimes, the observers in these videos seem too perfectly placed, but that’s what makes it magical. It was all about being at the right place at the right time.

I’d like to dedicate my life to the record “The Moon is Down.” No. Seriously.
Every time i come back to it, it blows my mind to fucking pieces and makes me feel like a callow songwriter. Unfuckwithable. Geniuses wrote this record. The chords and time signatures coming together on “The Moon is Down” are unfathomable. Like, what the fuck. No one writes like this. So blown. No one even comes close to imitating the sound. Circa Survive teeters along the line but they’re a whole different animal. They write with grooves in mind while FSF subtly slips it into your drink and you don’t even notice it until it’s too late. This music is emotionally epic and on the borderline of otherworldly. It takes you for a journey just like it hints to at the beginning of the album with the sound clip of a plane landing.

They never recovered when Chris left the band after making this record. They’ll forever be in the shadow of the first record even though they put out 2 great albums with 2 different singers afterwards. What the other two singers didn’t do was paint the visual landscape through lyrics like Chris so expertly did. That is one of the parts that was elemental to making “The Moon is Down” so unique. They just could not come close to touching that perfect record. How could anyone, even themselves? They were destined to fail. You can’t repeat perfection. “The Moon is Down” will forever be dear in many people’s hearts and I’m glad it touched me the way it did. It makes me realise there is something in this world that humanity has created that I can truly call perfection and we can all admire and get inspiration from it. “And I admire your strength, you keep us going on, you keep us fighting long after the fire,” indeed. I just wish someone would say that about me someday.

So you know there’s always those spring/summer songs that come out and they define that moment of time matter space continuum for you? Ok, well ‘Swing, Swing” lasted like a year for me, but normally the “Hey Ya”s and “Mr. Brightside”s of the world come out and just blow everything else away for those few months. They are YOUR JAM for the season. And no, “Party in the U.S.A.” shouldn’t be one. I think this is a strong contender for THAT SONG this spring. it’s a great pop single without being r&b or from a mega huge star.

I ask that question in my head about every couple months. I don’t think many people are.

Listened to Moneen’s latest on my trip to Manhattan last week. One of the few day trips I’ve made since being here. The soundtrack fit the day perfectly. I wanted something familiar, dear to me, been a long time friend, and something quite epic. This song started it off. We have explosion. I don’t know how this band does it. Must be extremely emotionally and physically straining to play a set of these songs every night. Not only with such an emotionally charged sound, they have some of the best poignant and life questioning lyrics to come out of a contemporary band.
